collagen vs. biotin
BIOTIN
As a hair stylist, I’ve done a ton of recommending that my clients take biotin supplements to support hair health and growth. The important things to remember about your hair, skin and nails are that your hair grows from your scalp, your skin is an organ, and your nails grow from the nail matrix which is the inner most part of the nail leading in to the rest of the finger. See a pattern here? What you put INSIDE your body will result in a healthy OUTSIDE appearance. The saying “you are what you eat” is actually pretty accurate!
Biotin is a part of the B vitamins that you should be taking daily for health purposes. In a standard multivitamin you will see biotin listed along with all the others on the label. However, if your natural body chemistry is not enough and you feel your hair has no life to it and you feel it just doesn’t grow, supplement more biotin into your diet.
Biotin helps your body to use its enzymes and carry nutrients throughout your body. Biotin is good for the hair because it stimulates natural keratin production, and keratin is the main structural component of your hair, causing your hair to grow faster, look and feel healthier, and have more life to it. It’s super simple and doesn’t take any effort to add in another vitamin supplement to your daily life.
COLLAGEN
Collagen is actually a natural source of protein found in your body’s connective tissues along with other mammals like cows. Collagen has a ton of benefits for your health, but mainly it is one of the main building blocks of your bones, skin, hair, muscles, tendons, and ligaments.
It’s what keeps your skin from sagging and your hair from losing its life and body. As you age, your body produces less and less of this protein just like it does with other vitamins and hormones. Collagen starts to slow production the earliest, so it’s good to get a jump on this supplement.
You can find collagen in all forms, and again, add it in to your daily life with no effort at all. Collagen helps your hair specifically because your hair does need the collagen protein in order to look and feel healthy.
To summarize, both supplements have great health benefits and I feel that both should be taken on a daily basis, especially in women. Biotin is more directly related to hair growth, but once I personally started adding in the collagen along with my biotin supplements, I felt like my hair and skin just skyrocketed and I am so happy with the results I’ve seen.
Grab some biotin and collagen and get going girl! Grow that hair and nourish that skin!
